Purpose
As Data Space Catalogue Service the Ocean Enterprise Catalogue allows the distributed, tamper-proof, self-sovereign storage of Data, Services, and Offerings Descriptions. Metadata records are stored as Verifiable Credentials utilizing Ocean Enterprise smart contracts following the ERC721 standard. The metadata itself is openly extensible to cater for domain-specific descriptions and standards, such as DCAT, Gaia-X, and others. As API and for performant queries against the distributed catalogue of any Ocean Dataspace the Aquarius Catalogue Cache Component, based on Elasticsearch, is utilized. Aquarius continuously monitors metadata being created or updated and caches the catalogue state for local processing supporting participant agents, markets and applications using the Data Space Infrastructure. Catalogue entries are fully self-sovereign, meaning they can only be changed by the original publisher of the metadata. Metadata is stored encrypted thus allowing for confidential metadata and selective disclosure.

- The Catalogue depends on the availability of an EVM-compatible distributed ledger supporting the Ocean Enterprise Smart Contracts, i.e. Oasis network, Pontus-X network, based on Oasis Sapphire.
- Business offerings
- The Implementations are operated and managed by the data space participants AND implementations are available as managed service AND there are support offerings available. The operation of the catalogue involved storage and compute capabilities. The provision of these capabilities is incentivized through optional network fees which are paid on demand to all operators of the federated catalogue and are due for storage and update requests.
- Additional functionalities
- The catalogue can store metadata in a privacy- and IP-preserving manner, making confidential contracts and selective disclosure possible. The catalogue allows reference of external additional off-chain metadata, semantic standards, and vocabulary hubs to allow domain-specific additions and modifications. The provisioning of these capabilities is incentivized through optional network fees which are paid on demand to all operators of the federated catalogue and are due for storage and update requests.
